Abstract

Cysticercosis is caused by the encystment of the larvae of the tapeworm Taenia solium. It is the most common ocular platyhelminth infestation in humans. It occurs due to ingestion of contaminated food especially undercooked pork, contaminated water and vegetables. It is commonly seen in places with poor sanitation. Ocular cysticercosis may be extraocular (subconjunctival or orbital tissue) or intraocular (vitreous, subretinal space or anterior chamber Intraocular cysticercosis) usually occurs as a part of systemic infection. We report a rare case of a 7 year female child with isolated right superior oblique muscle cysticercosis which presented with unilateral eccentric proptosis and restriction of eye movement in downward gaze. It is important to report such a case because of the relative rarity of the condition these days, unusual site of the cyst and the young age of the patient.
